About Afrigen Energy Limited
Afrigen Energy Limited is a Nairobi based Energy project Development Company with a vision to develop, own and operate energy generating assets in East Africa and selected African countries in the form of IPP’s (Independent Power Producer) using the full range of Renewable and Fossil fuels technologies.
The founder is Mr. Philip Mutevu of Kenya.
Afrigen Energy Ltd has secured control of several sites in Kenya for the purpose of developing, construction, commissioning and operation of energy generating plants that will have off-take agreements with Kenya Power Lighting Company (National Grid).
Afrigen Energy Ltd and its partners boasts of a team of highly qualified and highly experienced specialists in energy whose prime concern is delivering the best to the company, Kenya's power sector and its business partners. Departmental directors at Afrigen Energy Ltd constitute four doctorate and masters degree holders in energy, environment, civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.

Mr. Philip Mutevu is currently the Managing Director of Afrigen Energy Ltd, he has been responsible for the site development of several energy power plants in Kenya. He graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and obtained Higher Studies in Risk Management from the National Academy, India. To date Philip has consulted and coordinated several power plant pre-civil works, engineering site studies, and site development including coordination of actual works for major power stations in East Africa. These include the 81MW Triumph Thermal Power Plant, Kitengela, the 72MW Kindaruma Hydro-electric power plant whilst consulting for Carlsie Engineering Ltd and He also offered consultancy and project advisory on the 140MW Olkaria IV Geothermal Power Station whilst consulting for Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd of Korea. He is currently working on the several power plant sites, which Afrigen Energy Ltd has secured. He is adequately equipped with requisite sector knowledge and actual market experience.
Mr. Philip is also a board member and director of Technical Process Systems Engineering Services (EA) Ltd (TPS EA) based in Uganda. This is an accomplished mechanical engineering company based in Jinja Uganda. Among many other projects, this company carried out mechanical subcontractor works at the already commissioned 250MW Bujagali hydro Power station along river Nile, the 180MW Nalubaale hydro power station (previously known as The Owen falls dam), the 60MW Kiira Hydro power station and the 6MW mpanga small hydro power station all in Uganda.
Mrs. Peninah Wachui holds a Diploma in Design. She is a Shareholder and a Director of the Company. Since the formation of the company, she has chaired the Afrigen Energy Investment committee. The Committee reviews and recommends for approval to the Board the Investment Policy and any other policies incidental to power projects investment. The Committee reviews and assesses all risks associated with Investments and the management thereof.
The Committee reviews reports on investment activities, portfolio performance and capital requirements and usage. The Committee approves, if appropriate, all Investment transactions that exceed management’s or specific internal fund’s delegation of authority and recommends to the Board those that exceed its own delegation of authority.
Afrigen Energy Limited works with a large pool of specialized skilled persons only available as private consultants in various fields in order to deliver on its projects. Contracts are negotiated between Afrigen Energy Limited and the relevant consultant(s) from time to time depending on the project(s) at hand. The highly skilled consultants typically provide Engineering and other related technical power projects services; general oversight and leadership in executing power projects from initial planning to projects commercial operation. Daily tasks include Engineering & other related technical tasks, managing budgets, resources and managing relationships to achieve organizational objectives as well as planning, developing and executing schedules to ensure timely completion of the related Independent Power Projects (IPPs).
Afrigen Energy Limited also works with local land owners to ensure the availability of adequate land for its power projects.
